AP departments’ processes influence operational efficiency, every bit as much as automation. When improving your performance, it’s important to evaluate whether there is a mandated process that everyone follows that addresses the entire end-to-end procure-to-pay process (P2P-level). Is the process that everyone follows based only on AP’s requirements (department-level) instead? Or is the process determined separately by each person doing the work (desk-level)?
Consistent processes make a huge difference when it comes to efficiency. Take the number of invoices each full-time employee can process, for example. While automation plays an important role in how many invoices each FTE can manage, consistency of process also offers significant benefits.
