On-demand Webinar: What’s Going on With Form W-9?

Share

The IRS has released a draft version of Form W-9 that could significantly change how individuals report their taxpayer identification number, and it’s something Accounts Payable teams need to be watching closely.

Under the proposed draft, vendors who select the “individual/sole proprietor” box on the W-9 should be required to provide a Social Security Number only. EINs would no longer be permitted for that classification. If finalized, this change would impact how AP teams collect, validate, and store W-9s, and could create new challenges around vendor resistance, privacy concerns, and compliance risk.

In this webinar, we’ll walk through:

  • What the IRS is proposing and why this change is being considered
  • The current status of the draft W-9 and what may change before it becomes official
  • What AP teams should expect if and when the new form is finalized
  • How this change could affect vendor onboarding and year-end reporting

As time allows, we’ll also revisit essential, but often misunderstood, W-9 fundamentals, including:

  • What a properly completed W-9 should look like for different types of vendors
  • Common red flags and errors AP should watch for
  • The serious consequences of failing to obtain W-9s before issuing payments

This webinar will help AP professionals understand what’s coming, prepare their processes in advance, and avoid costly compliance missteps.
