What documentation to collect from international speakers?

Q. We are an educational institution and have international visitors come in for research, speaking, etc. When we bring these individuals in, we have them submit a W-8 and go through our supplier onboarding process to verify taxability.
One of our sister institutions also collects visas from them. Since we have them go through a vetting process for taxability already, should we be collecting visas as well?
