Voided check retention

Q. In my 35-plus years in AP the companies I have worked for have maintained a seven (7) year retention policy for any checks that are physically printed and voided before mailing. Recently my manager at my current company has an issue with the internal control I have followed for the last nine years of stamping the checks void and then maintaining them in a file for the seven-year retention period. Now I need to prove to her if this is a by company policy or actually a retention guideline…
