Q. I have a W-9 with an EIN number starting with 99-. I saw this as a red flag of a possible foreign vendor. I looked on the company's website and it states their home office in in Ohio, but they do have a location in Canada. Can I accept this W-9 or do I need a W-8? They marked the W-9 as a C-Corp, so no 1099 would be issued if the W-9 is accepted. A. (Answered by IOFM's third-party tax experts) An EIN beginning 98- is an indicator of presumed foreign status, but 99- is not.   102805
