Earned income tax notices to 1099 recipients

Q. We understand that employers that issue W-2 forms to employees should provide federal, state or local/city earned income tax notices to them. However, if someone is issued a 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC only, does the federal, state or local/city earned income tax notice have to be included since such payments aren't really made by an "employer." These 1099s are issued to independent contractors. A. (Answered by IOFM's third-party tax experts) No. It applies only to employees.   95980
