Q. If an employer pays an employee a scholarship payment of $7,200.00 directly, is that reportable as taxable income or not? I need to know if it goes on a W-2. If an employer pays an employee and school the $7,200.00 directly, then would that be exempt from taxing to the employee because they are going for a degree and using the money towards educational expenses -- which can be supported since the check is issued in the school's name as well?
