Verifying vendor banking details

Q. I am looking for best practices being used to verify banking details for new and existing vendors. We do have a form that we require be completed. Is it enough to call the person listed on the form and verify the information or should there be additional steps? Also, how do verify international vendors in different countries due to time zone differences and language barriers?
