Q. Can a company send multiple 1099 files (not forms) to the IRS, or must they all be combined in one filing? A. (Answered by IOFM's third-party tax experts) E-filing of your company’s 1099 information returns can be done as multiple files – you do not have to combine all Forms 1099 in one file. Electronic files can be uploaded via the legacy IRS FIRE system (see IRS Publication 1220), the IRS IRIS system (see Pub. 5717), or as bulk files using the IRIS A2A system (see Pub. 5718 and 5719). …
