Q. Can the Foreign TIN be confirmed through IRS TIN Matching? Additionally, are Foreign Entities required to obtain an EIN? A. (Answered by IOFM's third-party tax experts) The IRS TIN matching program allows for the matching of name/ TIN combinations on 1099-reportable income subject to backup withholding requirements – you cannot confirm a foreign TIN through IRS TIN matching. Foreign entities are not required to obtain an EIN.   110418
