Q. Is settlement payment to the government 1099 reportable?
A.
(Answered by IOFM's third-party tax expert)
No, a settlement to the government would not be reportable. However, if the settlement money is sent to a law firm as an intermediary, that would be reportable in box 10 of 1099-MISC.
